Episcopal Transition:
On Tuesday November 1, 2011 the Executive Committee of the Diocese met with the Metropolitan, Archbishop David Ashdown, to discuss the timeline and process for electing a new Bishop of Calgary after Bishop Hoskin’s retirement at the end of this year. The date for the Electoral Convention of Synod has been tentatively set as June 16, 2012. That date will be formally confirmed at a meeting of the Diocesan Council in early January 2012 when the notice calling the synod is issued. It is anticipated that a timeline describing the process leading to the electoral synod will be available soon. In the meantime, parishes should be aware that they need to elect their lay members of Synod at their annual general meetings in early 2012 according to the new Constitution of the Diocese that will be in effect at that time. (See paragraph C5 on page 2 of the new Constitution on the Diocesan website at Diocesan website). The lay members of synod that are elected at parish AGMs will be the members of the electoral synod and they are the ones who will be permitted to nominate a candidate to be the next Bishop of the Diocese.

Candelight Vespers will be offered at the cathedral on Thursdays at 6 p.m., October through April. The service is based on the ancient monastic rite sung at the close of day. Led by the cathedral choir, the service is sung in its entirety. It is a time for reflection and recollection in which you can be restful in the presence of God and delight in the serenity of the cathedral’s surroundings. Please join us at the end of the work day for a beautiful, contemplative 30 min. of chant, silence, and candlelight. The cathedral is located at the corner of 1st St SE and 7th Ave. (Centre St. C-train Station).
