SpiritualityThe Search for a Spiritual HomeThe search for a spiritual home is an important quest. It's the search for a community of faith that "feels right" or "fits." It's a place we feel "we belong." It's the desire to find a community of faith where the Christian gospel is presented in such a way that inspires our lives, deepens our faith, challenges our thoughts and speaks to the longings of our hearts. It is a place with a worship pattern that feels 'familiar' but also refreshing. It's a place where the lives of the young, children, teens and young adults are nurtured in a meaningful caring way. You could say it's a matter of taste. At a deeper level it's about the soul's journey towards God. In other words, choosing a spiritual home is a very important decision. St. Martin's does not claim to be the 'right' place for everyone. In the "Baskin-and-Robins-33-flavours" of the Christian community in Calgary we are one of the ways by which people can "taste and see that the Lord is good." Like ice cream, most of us have preferred flavours and trusted favourites. However, there is also today a genuine search for the next forms of the Christian community. In 1999 St. Martin's voluntarily sold its historic church in a faithful act of opening itself to God's future. We still celebrate the Risen Christ, tell the sacred story, and share the sacred meal, as we embrace the creative opportunity of this God-given venture in faith. It is an adventure to forge a remarkable community and generate a unique Christian experience. But that is just my taste - my flavour of ice cream. Many thanks for visiting St. Martin's web site. If you have any questions or would like to meet with me personally, or with one of the clergy, we would be delighted to do so. Pray for every Christian and every community. May God's grace in the risen Christ lead and inspire you in all things. Warmly,
The Rev. Dr. Richard LeSueur |
